The Call of the Wild-Chapter Two

Teaching aims:

1.     To learn some useful words and phrases and try to use them properly.

2.     To analyze the lessons that Buck learnt in this chapter.

3.     To appreciate the beauty of the language in this book.

Key points and difficult points:

1.     How to analyze the Buck’s experience from the passge.

2.     How to lead my students to appreciate the beauty of the language.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1: Rivew the content of Chapter 1

Step 2:Students will read the passage and find the answers of these questions by the guidance of the teacher.

Para1 to Para4:

Q1: What’s the first lesson did Buck learn?

Q2: How did he learn the lesson?

Q3: What happened to Curly?

Para 5-Para6 &Para 15:

Q1:What’s the third lesson?

Q2: How did he learn the lesson?

Para8-Para14:

Q1:What’s the third lesson?

Q2:How did he learn the lesson?

Q3:What’s the team’s attitude towards their work?

Thinking: How many dogs are there in the team? What are their characters?

Para16-21:

Q1:What’s the fourth lesson?

Q2:How did he learn the lesson?

Step3: Critical thinking

What qualities do you think Buck possesses to survive in the North? In what way do they ensure his survial?

Try to guess:

What will happen in the next Chapter?

Reflections: Some new words and expressions are still the biggest difficulties for our students to read.We should pay attention to this aspect in the usual classes.Besides, we should teach students some methods of how to find the key imformation while reading.
