                     The Call of the Wild (野性的呼唤)

 = 1 \* ROMAN \* MERGEFORMAT I： 作品主要内容：作品讲述了原是米勒法官家的一只爱犬，经过文明的教化，一直生活在美国南部加州一个温暖的山谷里。后被卖到美国北部寒冷偏远，盛产黄金的阿拉斯加，成为一只拉雪橇的狗。这部作品以一只狗的经理表现了文明世界的狗在主人的逼迫下回到野蛮，写的是狗，也反映了人的世界。

His life experiences:

Jack London:  a great American writer/Pirate/sailor/worker/tramp

In the year 1897, he went to Alaska to find gold. Instead of getting much gold, he found ideas for his books and stories.

Step two: Explain the meaning of the call of the wild using the original sentence from the book:

a judge, Buck's origional owner； gives Buck the demosticated life

Manuel: a gardener of Mr. Miller  a large family, gambling

Perrault: French Canadian  He buys Buck first

Francois:  half-indian, who teams with Perrault

Curly:   good-natured dog

Spitz:  a dog treacherously (奸诈的)friendly

Dave: experienced dog that mainly eats and sleeps and just want to be left alone

Step five: a summary of chapter one

Buck, a Saint Bernard-Scotch shepherd mix, lived the good life on Judge Miller’s ranch in the Santa Clara Valley until he was kidnapped（诱骗，绑架） by Manuel, a gardener’s assistant with a gambling problem. Manuel shipped Buck north to become a sled dog in the Yukon Territories. In Seattle Buck was broken by a man with a club, providing him with his initiation into his savage （野蛮的）new life. There he and Curly, a good-natured Newfoundland, were purchased by Perrault and François Buck and Curly joined Spitz and Dave, two other dogs, for the journey north. Arriving in the Yukon, Buck experiences snow for the first time.
